The rallies come after Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Tuesday blamed days of protests across the country on meddling by "enemies of Iran".

Iran said Donald Trump's "absurd" tweets have incited anti-regime protests and the United States "has crossed every limit" in global relations. Without naming specific countries, he accused foreign powers of using "money, weapons, politics and the intelligence apparatus to create problems for the Islamic system, the Islamic Republic and the Islamic Revolution".

The officials said they believed conservative opponents of Iranian President Hassan Rowhani, a relative moderate within Iran's clerically overseen government, started the demonstrations in Mashhad, but quickly lost control of them.

At least 50 protesters have been arrested since Thursday, authorities said.

So far, the ongoing protests have not reached the size of the 2009 Green Movement demonstrations, when millions of Iranians took to the streets in protest.

Construction of the U.S. -Mexico border wall was a key campaign promise of Trump's . It has instead become a security nightmare as applicants are chosen at random.

Undoubtedly high on his list is the USA, where President Donald Trump has tweeted his support for the protests for several days.

"It is better for him to try to address the USA internal issues like the murder of scores killed on a daily basis in the United States during armed clashes and shootings, as well as millions of the homeless and hungry people in the country", Ghasemi said, according to the state-run IRNA news agency.

"Big protests in Iran".

The Iranian people have endured decades of political repression by an autocratic, Islamist government. "These hard-earned rights will be protected, and infiltrators will not be allowed to sabotage them through violence and destruction", Zarif tweeted on Tuesday.

The rallies, scheduled weeks earlier, commemorated a mass 2009 pro-government rally challenging those who rejected the re-election of hard-line president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad amid fraud allegations.

Gérard Depardieu serait ainsi, pour lui, un "fils de pute " pour avoir rendu son passeport français. Il avait utilisé le même terme pour qualifier Aurore Bergé , aujourd'hui députée de son parti.

Many reports of peaceful protests by Iranian citizens fed up with regime's corruption & its squandering of the nation's wealth to fund terrorism overseas.

The government has warned against "illegal gatherings" while there have also been several counter-demonstrations over the past three days.

Those massive protests found support among middle-class Iranians angry over voter fraud in the 2009 election and were led by reformist election candidates. Final say on all matters of state rests with the supreme leader. "With the demonstrations lacking clear leadership or a coherently articulated positive programme, the tide ultimately will turn back in the regime's favour, helped by a range of concessions and targeted crackdowns", Ghoncheh Tazmini, an associate member of the Centre for Iranian Studies at the School of Oriental and African Studies, told TWW.Dr. Vaez also saw an opportunity for President Rouhani, who could "leverage public discontent to push the political establishment toward structural changes so fervently desired by the population".

USA policy should also highlight and denounce the regime's repression and human rights abuses. The CIA joined the British in fomenting a coup against the elected government of Iranian Prime Minister Mohammed Mosaddegh. That 1953 coup still fuels mistrust of the USA among Iranians. The president came close to making such a promise in a tweet on New Year's Day that began with "Iran is failing at every level despite the awful deal made with them by the Obama Administration" and ended with the exclamation "TIME FOR CHANGE!"
