MSU President Declines Raise Amid Criticism Over Handling of Nassar Complaints

At Friday's Michigan State University Board of Trustees meeting, members of the board and MSU president Lou Anna Simon were face-to-face with several victims of Larry Nassar, a former doctor and school employee recently convicted of sexually abusing his patients.

Nassar was sentenced last week to 60 years in prison for possessing child pornography.

"And I spoke today, addressed the board, and one thing that I actually corrected President Simon in was that she calls us "accusers" and we are not accusers, we are survivors and victims of Nassar". Simon has donated more than $1.4 million to the university overall since becoming president.

Simon now makes $860,198 in total compensation in 2015, according to the Chronicle of Higher Education.

One of Nassar's victims, Kaylee Lorincz, told the board that she nor any other victims had received any offer of counseling prior to the meeting. However, to me it sounded like a statement that simply said that she's sorry that this happened to me. She has declined proposed pay increases in previous years as well. She said no one at the university has contacted her or her daughter in an effort to find out more about what happened and told Simon that she thinks she would like to be a resource as Michigan State's continues to review ways it can improve how it handles sexual assault. Multiple Nassar victims took to the podium to express their dissatisfaction with how the university handled the situation.

"I think that her apology was maybe a nice thought to her". "I do not believe that whatsoever". She was at the MSU Board of Trustees meeting earlier today, and joined us on Stateside afterward.

"Since the assault I can't sleep, I don't trust and I have a hard time making friends".

MSU said Strampel is going on medical leave, citing health reasons. "I can only imagine how my life might have been different if only MSU might have done their job in protecting me".

"I wake up every day with the weight of this horrendous scandal on my shoulders".

A woman who worked at a practice with Nassar said she wasn't informed about restrictions placed upon him by MSU.

Apg Asset Management Nv Increases Position in Bank Amer Corp (BAC)

Board Chairman Brian Breslin and other trustees also apologized to survivors.

Now MSU is looking for a way to shield officials who either knew or should have known the doctor was risky. The charges stemmed from an internal report commissioned by the university's board of trustees, much like the MSU review now in question.

Separately, House Speaker Tom Leonard, R-Dewitt, has called on Simon to resign.

They are also looking for an independent investigation of MSU by law enforcement. In Fitzgerald's response, he said he did not believe anyone at Michigan State believed Nassar's actions were crimes before he was publicly accused in 2016.
