Michigan State Police investigate remains possibly linked to missing Skelton boys case

MI police are looking into the possibility the remains of three children found in Montana in September could be linked to the disappearance of three MI brothers in 2010.

"[We found] loose teeth, there was what appeared to be bone from a lower jaw, and others that were not as specifically described, but I would call them pieces of bone", Missoula, Montana police Sgt. Travis Welsh said. Forensic testing revealed they likely belonged to children between the ages of 2 and 4, 5 and 8, and 6 and 10.

Tanner, Andrew and Alexander Skelton went missing around Thanksgiving 2010.

A spokesman for the Michigan State Police said they have requested more information about the Montana discovery but cautioned it was too early to say whether there's a connection to the Skelton brothers.

Their father is in prison for unlawful imprisonment, but little information about the boys has surfaced since 2010. Police believe he killed them.

At the time the boys went missing they were in the care of their father, John Skelton. "If that happens, if we can get DNA out of these fragments, if they can definitely determine they are brothers, that would go a long ways toward making us take a closer look at the MI case".

Skelton was supposed to bring the children back after a visit but never did. Seven years later, their photos continue to hang from storefronts and vehicle windows.
