OnePlus 5T DRM support

OnePlus 5T can't stream content from Netflix in HD - yet

In order to be able to stream HD content from Netflix or Amazon Prime Video, the device must have Widevine Level 1 DRM (Digital Rights Management).

I would like to know why a $500 phone is not capable of fully utilizing these very popular services and if there are any plans to rectify this clearly ridiculous issue. But there are many devices which have L1 security level and allow HD streaming. The lack of Level 1 certification is only affecting the DRM protected streaming services that include some of the popular ones like Netflix and Amazon Prime Video.

However, Kizer threw a bad interception in overtime that helped seal the Packers' win. The Browns defense forced another punt but the yardage lost was costly.

This discrepancy was pointed by one OnePlus 5T user in a thread on OnePlus forums.

Without the aforementioned certification, OnePlus 5 (and 5T) owners, despite the device having Optic AMOLED screen will only able to watch the media content on low SD (Standard Definition) 640x480p resolution.

Considering that the OnePlus 5T is touted to be on par with the current flagships in town, it's a bit perplexing to see that it doesn't support HD streaming. The 5T now supports Widevine Level 3, which only covers standard definition streams. The company is aware of the issue and has promised to bring support to both devices. It is unimaginable for a flagship phone to lack such a feature, which is taken for granted. There is no time frame given for this update though. And second, that the OnePlus 5 has been like this for a year and no one apparently noticed.

A company spokesperson told Android Police that a future update will enable Widevine Level 1 on both the OnePlus 5 and OnePlus 5T, which will enable HD playback from streaming services that are now blocked.

Currently, the OnePlus 5 and 5T only support Level 3 protection, although a software update should greatly improve your Stranger Things binge-watching experience... at some point in the not-too-distant future.
