In line with other provinces, B.C. will have government-run wholesale distribution of legalized pot through the BC Liquor Distribution Branch.

The federal government introduced legislation in April to legalize and restrict access to marijuana across the country beginning in July 2018.

Almost 50,000 British Columbians offered their input during provincial consultations this fall, plus more than 140 municipalities and First Nations, Farnworth's ministry stated in the release.

"Looking at the responses received, it's clear that British Columbians support the priorities of protecting young people, health and safety, keeping the criminal element out of cannabis and keeping roads safe, which will guide the Province in developing B.C.'s regulatory framework for non-medical cannabis", Farnworth said in a news release.
